Ruth works tirelessly to listen to staff on the ground, to build strong relationships and to fight for the issues that matter most to our members. Ruth has been a strong supporter of our branch in its actions against unprecedented job cuts and incompetent management. She has joined every Federation University rally in my time as Vice President. Our members know her, they know they can reach out to her. They know she understands the unique problems that plague staff at regional and open-access Universities; such as the growth in 'third space' roles, role creep and the need for increased student support. Ruth’s work to address staff workloads and to fight for mental health and wellbeing through the HSR network hits home for our members at Federation University. 

Ruth also has the passion and drive to strengthen our Union. Her strong feminist ethic and on-the-ground activism have led to the reinvigoration of the Women’s Action Committee (WAC), which at this crucial time for tertiary sector women, is beginning to draw in new members and engage in organising activities. Her genuine ethic of care, responsiveness and on-the-ground engagement has enabled our rank-and-file members to forge a strong link with our Victorian Division. Ruth’s work must continue. That is why I am endorsing Ruth Jelley for Assistant Secretary.
